Sick Day

Sick days are for taking up the whole bed and listening to the rain fall through the open window.

Sick days are for creating cosy empires with a Radio 4 soundtrack; gallons of tea and stodgy sweet porridge consumed while hiding under the duvet.

Sick days are for observing an unfamilar neighbourhood: new noises, new happenings, which are always missed while at work.

Sick days are for eating toast and jam unreasonably close to lunch time.

Sick days are for ignoring the smudgy sink, the untidy living room, the washing and the ironing, and instead creating a temporary dirge of crumbs, crinkled sheets and dirty dishes.

Sick days can sometimes be a welcome break from the buzz of life!
